Die jahrtausende lange Geschichte dieser Stadt befindet sich heute auf der UNESCO-Liste zum Schutz des historischen Welterbes und schreibt Vergangenheit und Gegenwart dieser einzigartigen Metrople von Südkroatien
Lage und Natureigenschaften
Die Stadt Split liegt im wärmsten Gebiet der mediterranen Nordküste, im mittleren Teil der Adriaküste und an den Flüssen Jadro und Žrnovnica, die Split schon 1700 Jahre mit Trinkwasser versorgen. Ihr mildes Klima mit 2700 Sonnenstunden verwandelt Split auch mitten im Winter in eine angenehme klimatische Oase. Das heutige Split ist eine moderne Metropole, verfügt über angesehene wirtschaftliche und kulturelle Institutionen, Hochschulen und Universitäten. Der Berg „Marjan“, als Wahrzeichen von Split ist heute der größte und attraktivste Naturpark der Stadt Split und bietet allen Altersgruppen Freizeit- und Erlebnismöglichkeiten und übernimmt die Rolle der grünen Lunge der hektischen Stadt an seinem Fuße.

Split Summer (1954 - 2010) is an artistic festival that builds its national and international reputation since the second half of the 20th century. Along with the Dubrovnik summer games, it is a festival with the longest and most splendid tradition of the classical spectrum of scene arts (opera, drama, ballet, concert...), widening the fan of events with time: from jazz concerts and movie revues to exhibitions, performances and street theatre. The most persistent and strongest organization bearer of the festival is HNK Split, a national theatre that represents the unavoidable and key spot in the culture life of Split, as well as one of the most vital spots in the theatre life of entire Croatia.

Salvador Felipe Jacinto Dali I Domenech was born at 8:45 on the morning of May 11, 1904 in the small agricultural town of Figueres, Spain. The young Dali attended the San Fernando Academy of Fine Arts in Madrid. Early recognition of Dali's talent came with his first one-man show in Barcelona in 1925.He became internationally known when three of his paintings, including The Basket of Bread (now in the Museum's collection), were shown in the third annual Carnegie International Exhibition in Pittsburgh in 1928.
